We Are Not A Minority!
In 2006, the Healthy Communities Survey, coordinated by United Way agencies, found that 89% of McHenry County residents think environmental protection is just as important as residential development. In 2007, 65 percent of local voters supported a referendum to increase property taxes so that MCCD could issue about $72 million in bonds to buy more land for conservation purposes.
Between 70 and 80 percent of voters responded in a statewide May 2009 poll that, despite the current economy, they think the state should spend more money to protect land and water resources.

- We are residents of McHenry County Illinois, who are concerned about the direction our County Planning Commission is taking us in the 2030 Land Use Plan. We will share our concerns here and are very interested in your opinions. We believe that our farmland must be preserved and will be more valuable as farmland in the near future than it will be as developed land. We believe that our water supply must be respected and no development should compromise our watesheds and our aquifers. The plan as written, compromises both farmland and water supplies.
